Captain America Deals with Civil War

April 12, 2016

Just a few years ago, super-hero movies were pretty simple. You had a superhero, and the movie was about the superhero and the superhero's enemy, who was also the enemy of the people. Now, superhero movies are rarely about just one superhero and one villain. These days, super-heroes form little superhero gangs and fight other superhero gangs. The idea is that if one superhero is good, then 10 must be better, which isn't always the case. However, it does seem to be the case with movies, so if it works, meaning if it sells tickets, then you can bet your boots there will be more bigger superhero movies with more superheroes in them--and more super-villains too. Hints Regarding Game of Thrones Season 6 Are Coming Out

April 7, 2016

While the Game of Thrones has always been somewhat predictable because, well, after all, it IS based on the series of books written by George R.R. Martin, this season is different. It seems that Martin was taking too long writing the next installment, so HBO went ahead and began production anyway. It would be pointless to try to guess what is in the works for the next season, but we can make some assumptions based on what the stars have had to say on the various media platforms. Point Break Remake Is Action Packed!

November 26, 2015

Some people might say that the action classic Point Break did not need to be remade. In fact, a lot of people would say that in their loudest voice using their most offended language. The original was, and still is, perfect. Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves were extraordinarily popular macho stars with tremendous box-office appeal. Their chemistry tied the whole film together. Gary Busey was perfect as the sidekick, and even The Red Hot Chili Pepper's Anthony Kiedis had a great bit part on the beach. Lori Petty had a break-out performance and four years later, she starred in the film Tank Girl, based on the popular British comic book. So why was the film remade, anyway?   Well, like lots of remakes of popular films, the producers felt that they could do it better the second time around... Continue Reading...

AMC's 'Walking Dead' Comes Alive October 2015

October 30, 2015

Get ready for more gore and ghouls. AMC's smash-hit "Walking Dead" is returning to the small screen in early October. Season six of the acclaimed show will start with a bang and a fantabulous Hollywood premiere. Fans and critics agree that season five was the best yet, but producers guarantee that the upcoming series will be even better.  There's no question that the "Walking Dead" has something that other shows don't. It's wild and unpredictable. Every time you think you know what's going on, the plot shifts thanks to clever plot twists and unstable characters that are fighting to stay on the edge of existence.  Who can wait for the premiere? We can't. Will the Alexandrians and Grimes group band together or tear each other apart? And who is controlling the zombie minions that ar... Continue Reading...

The Resurgence of Divergent

October 30, 2015

Dystopian films based on wildly popular young adult books seem to follow a pattern. In March, the resurgent movie franchise Divergent will lumber into theaters with the second installment named Insurgent. Can't you already hear the delighted squeals of fans everywhere, like when the residents of Whoville all shouted at once so Horton could hear them? Like The Hunger Games before it, the films are coming out yearly and the last book will be split into two glorious films that are just right for raking in piles of cold, hard cash--and I don't mean Johnny Cash, although he is also cold and hard, rest his rockin' soul. If you've seen the trailer for Insurgent, you know that many, many reality-bending action-packed scenes with heroine Tris are being packed into this film like herrings in a tin c... Wahlberg, Johnson Buddy Up in “Pain and Gain”

October 30, 2015

"Pain and Gain" is a movie starring Mark Wahlberg that is based on a series of investigative articles in 1999 written by Pete Collins for the Miami New Times about the Sun Gym Gang. Daniel Lugo (Wahlberg) decides he has to make his move before he's destined to wearing sweatpants to work every day. He's a physical trainer who takes steroids and dreams of having an easy life.  He and partner Adrian Doorbal (Anthony Mackie) undertook a kidnapping that didn't go as planned. Tony Shalhoub, of "Monk" fame, plays the kidnappee, Victor Kershaw. Dwayne Johnson, who used to be The Rock when he was a professional wrestler, comes on the team with Lugo and Doorbal as an enforcer, but he's committed to non-violence.   "Pain and Gain" has ample doses of both pain and gain, but it specializes in... “The Company You Keep” is Packed with Stars

October 30, 2015

Most films, it seems, rely on a couple A-list actors to hold it together. Supporting roles go to lesser known or unknown actors, probably for budget reasons. "The Company You Keep," which stars and was directed by Robert Redford, has a cast that's packed with a very impressive list of actors. Of course, Redford is an attraction unto himself. Anything with his name attached is usually gold. Maybe that's because he surrounds himself with great talent.   The Company You Keep boasts the talents of Julie Christie, whom Al Pacino called "the most poetic of all actresses." Other cast members include veterans Nick Nolte, Susan Sarandon, Terrence Howard, Shia LaBeouf and Sam Elliott, whose unmistakable voice is used in lots of TV ads.  The flick is about a former member of the radical 70... "Scary Movie 5" Buzz Leads Up to April 3rd Premiere

October 29, 2015

The volatile combination of Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan makes "Scary Movie 5" the most anticipated and the most dreaded movie of the year. The pratfalls and gags air on the big screen for the first time on April 3, 2013, at the world premiere in Hollywood. Those familiar with this unique comedy-horror brand know that the rebooted "Scary Movie 5" will be like no other film in the series. People are buying tickets to the "Scary Movie 5" premiere and the after-party to see the film and the star-studded action.    So far, Lindsay Lohan has threatened to sue Dimension Films for an unapproved probation joke that appeared in the trailer. She also refused to kiss Charlie Sheen during filming because his mouth was too gross. Apparently he wasn't offended, because a few weeks later he... Continue Reading...
